Call to Order & Inspirational Talk

Rev. Dr. Linda Beal opened the conference with the call to order and welcoming the body to this week's conference and business session.

Dr. Serenus Chum provided the morning inspiration reflecting on Luke 24: 13. Easter Sunday had come, resurrection had taken place and now here are two disciples on their way with no pep in their step. They exude pessimisms and disappointment. Chum reminds us here of importance of keeping the right company. He says we will find ourselves worse off if we deal with folks that feed our pessimisms.

The two disciples converse with each other when He intrudes. They go along with His intrusion wondering what was wrong with him. 'Didn't he hear the hammer ringing? The Earthquake? What on earth had happened to him? It had been three days since it happened, did this intruder not know?' Why was he not sad as they were? Churn says that some of us have found ourselves in this situation. The Emmas Road Blues, Churn calls it:

Jesus takes the time to diagnosis their condition, to figure out why they are suffering. Diagnosis: The disciples' disposition had less to do with Jesus crucifixion and burial, and more because they were slow of heart. Churn reminds us to rejoice and get happy reading Scripture and responding to life positively regardless of how life comes at us.
