Rev. Carter opened devotion with hymn #147, ‘Nothing but the Blood,’ and
read scripture from Matthew chapter 26:1-11. Devotion was closed with hymn
#164, ‘I Have Decided to Follow Jesus’ and prayer.
Rev. Dr. Linda Beal called the conference to order and welcomed the body
to this week’s conference and business session.
As the morning mediation, Dr. Churn reflected on the burial of Jesus
Christ recorded in Matthew 27:57-66.
Churn says a fantastic and wonderful thing happened after the followers
of Christ prepared our Lord for burial.
The Pharisees with the approval of Pilot tried to further deceive the
resurrection event. The sepulcher that held
the body of Jesus was sealed—Pilot said “make the tomb sure as you can
do—secure it to the best of your ability—use the Roman guard and place the
king’s seal on the great stone and make it sure as you can.
Churns says
but early Sunday morning before the Lark left her nest to gather food for her
young—light had not peaked thru the dark morning sky…. An Angel of the Lord came and rolled away the
stone. Early Sunday morning, He got
up—Jesus rose from death to life!
The minutes of the April 4th conference were read and
accepted with proper correction(s).
Rev. Marina
Skinner, Associate Minister EBC, is day’s Order of the Day. Next week is International Partners Day with
our Zimbabwe Baptist Conference representatives. We will meet at the Winston Lake Family YMCA
and share a community lunch with our Zimbabwe guests.
Dr. John
Mendez reported the Annual Minster Conference ‘Seven Last Words’ Worship will
be held Friday, April 13, 2006 6pm at EBC.
Chris Bauman,
Organizer CHANGE, reported the focus of CHANGE going forward will be the
upcoming Delegates Assembly April 30, 2006, 4pm at Union Baptist Church and the
Education Initiative. Educating the
community on city spending and bond money allocation is a top priority. A profile of city’s economic development
spending was distributed and discussed.
CHANGE is developing an economic development plan that provides vitality
for the broader community.
Chancellor
Harold Martin has agreed to facilitate a meeting with the health community
leaders to formula a solution to support the Downtown Health Plaza. The meeting is scheduled May 8, 2006 3pm at
WSSU.
Rev. Bass
reported representatives from the Zimbabwe Baptist Conference would visit WS
the week of April 24th and be guests at the Tuesday 25th
conference. Also, the conference
accepted an invitation to hold conference and lunch at the Winston Lake YMCA on
the same day.
Rev. Sanders
reported the MLK Golf Scholarship Fundraiser has received $5000 in proceeds
to-date. A call for more Conference members to enter a team was also made.

reported Reverend Reuban Gilliam’s brother passed. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 4, 2006,
2pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

at the Benton Convention Center.
