Re: February 13, 2007 Ministers Conference of Winston-Salem &
Vicinity
Rev. Carter opened devotion with hymn #191, ‘Glory To His Name’ and the
reading of Exodus 20:12-18. Devotion was
closed with hymn #164, ‘I Have Decided to Follow Jesus’ and prayer.
Rev. Dr. Linda Beal opened the conference with the
call to order and welcoming the body to this week’s conference and business
session.
Dr.
Sid Kelly provided the morning inspiration reflecting on Mark chapter 5.The
woman with the blood issue was labeled impure. Anything she touched, anywhere
she sat, it didn’t matter what it was she was an abomination in her community.
Kelly suggests that it wasn’t the church that began liberating women from
embarrassment it was modern technology with the invention of tampons and
sanitary napkins. Kelly says that ministers should thank God that God is not
just dependent on the church to get done what He wants done.
Kelly tells of how there was a time when women
could not hold certain occupations like T.V. anchors, preachers, or business
CEO’s. But just as this audacious woman touches Jesus, sexism has been and must
be challenged. Kelly says that all those who are outcast, such as the mentally
sick and those imprisoned, must be accepted in our society.
The February 6th conference were read and accepted with
proper corrections.

at the 11am worship service. There will be a book signing after service.
Rev.
Sanders led the black anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Minister Telika McCoy
was the preaching order of the day. McCoy is a minister at Mt. Zion Baptist
Church, WS and a final year student at Shaw Divinity School.
Minister
McCoy spoke from the subject “What Must the Preachers Do?” (Acts 5:17-29). The
preacher is constantly dealing with issues that aim to hinder the delivering of
the gospel message. McCoy asked the question of what must preachers do when
faced with much adversity. With all that happens in both the personal and
social life of the preacher, what answer can he find when searching for reasons
to keep on preaching? She informs the body that though the apostles found
themselves in bondage, as we do many times, they continued their divine
assignment upon release. God delivered them from prison so that they could more
strenuously do their Godly duty. McCoy says preachers who preach the centrality
of the cross mustn’t allow their emotions to get in the way of their
assignment.
McCoy
gives two focal points of which the preacher must be aware; reasons why he/she
is a threat to the enemy. The preacher must understand that he/she is a threat
to the enemy because of the power he/she has through Christ and his/her
never-ending commitment to preach the gospel by any means necessary.
McCoy
concludes with the answer to the sermon title, what must the preachers do? We
ought to obey God rather than men!
The body rose to give Minister McCoy a rousing vote of thanks for her message.
